Color humming

Will you do me a favor?

I'm curious about this...will you close your eyes and hum one note for about 5 seconds? As you do, tell me what color you see.

We did this in our music therapy group on Thursday and I was astounded with the variety of answers we received. I'll tell you about them after I hear from you.

I saw kind of a golden brown color.

I did a medium note and just got the red color behind my eyes. So, I tried going higher and there was a faint flash of yellow. Kind of cool, no one has ever asked me to do that before.

Higher note = rainbow that never settled on one color (though yellow was prevalent)

Lower note = purple. Definite purple.

Unfortunately, I'm not any good at seeing/sensing color with my eyes closed. I got nothing but black.

I tried this before any comments were posted. I hummed for 5 seconds and saw nothing. So I kept on humming and humming wanting so badly to see a color that I kept thinking of colors that it could be but then became irritated with myself that I was trying too hard to conjure up an unauthentic color. So Now I came back to it days later and went up with 3 notes quickly and possibly thought it could be yellow, white, pink.

Couldn't see a color. Perhaps this experiment is related to synesthesia?

I wonder when you'll decode why we saw the colors we did, hmmm?

For Dainon... when I did it, I also saw a rainbow, like you. It just wouldn't settle on a color. When I asked the leader of our group about this, he interpreted it as an all around general happiness and love of life. You have life in you and much variety.

Black: either the back of your eyelids, or a soft quietness.

Brown: earth-connected, grounded, rooted

Red: a tone of anxiety and/or action.

Yellow: light-seeker and/or light-being.

Purple: a cooling tone of contentment. Desire for isolation or alone time.

White: Seeking divinity or one's higher power.

Pink: Soft undertones of quiet power.

Naturally these colors are open to interpretation. The premise is simply that for five seconds of concentration, you are listening to something deeper in you. It's why people chant in monotone humming. It focuses your mind on one image, one sound, and you can allow deeper things to surface. Kind of interesting, huh?

I'll say. I have life in me and I'm content ... yeah, I'll agree with that. Huzzah!
