It's my turn to be Cinderella!

I went latin dancing again last night. I pinned my shoe strap together like a salvation army hero. (See "The Other Cinderella" story below).

"My name is Juan." It was him. That man I mentioned in "The Other Cinderella" who made me fly seven years ago. He didn't recognize me. I simply gave him my hand, and we started to dance. I didn't tell him we had danced before. I didn't tell him that I have thought about that dance for the last seven years. I didn't tell him that I have fantasized about meeting him again, having him ask for my number, requesting me to be his dance partner in the next local latin dancing competition. I just smiled, closed my eyes for a moment, and got ready for the ride.

By the end of the night, he asked for my number, and requested me to be his dance partner in the next local latin dancing competition.

"Who are we competing against?" I asked, attempting to contain my excitement. It was a bit too hard to do, especially with Juan yelling to the sky, "I have a partner!!!" So we both gave in to jumps up and down and happy hugs. We stood outside at his car in the cool midnight air exchanging our scraps of paper with phone numbers and email addresses attached, "Is our competition here tonight?" He shook his head. "They don't come here. They are professionals. They teach dance for a living, and they have their own club. On the weekends, they dance together in their own studio."

"Oh," I muttered nervously. (Must be those people I met at that birthday party. See Cinderella story.) I cleared my throat. "And we're competing against them?"
"Yes!" Juan's smile reached from ear to ear. There was no hesitation in his voice, no nervous tone whatsoever. He continued, "When we practice next weekend, we'll watch videos of the professionals, and then we'll simply do what they do!"

Oh, it's as easy as that, is it? I suddenly knew why I liked Juan. He's streamed possibility. He brushed away my insecurity like it was an annoying fly. So I thought you might want to see what we're up against:

This afternoon's email from Juan:

"Hi Emily!

It's me! Juan, I hope you got home well last night, you were a little tired. I will tell you that meeting you last night was really wonderful, you want the same as I want,I mean dancing together and get better and better... Both of us will become dinamite. Take care of yourself. I am really excited waiting for next Saturday, You will see the steps I have in that video, you will love it. I look forward to hearing from you soon to know how you got home last night.Talk to you soon."

Juan

One of my life dreams is about to come true.

Good for you! I hope you have fun. Is it a bad thing to envy your "prince charming" because of how happy he has made you?

emily, i love that you've found someone who flicks away insecurity and replaces it with "possibility."

i love that.

i'm going to remember that idea today.

Anonymous, he's not a prince charming just because he's helping a dream come true. Two completely different things. Maybe that will help you not be envious?

Anonymous, are you not happy?

In answer to your question and a bit of explanation of myself, from what I've read in your blog, you are a pretty neat person and having a dream come true is wonderful. I just look at those that can help others' dreams come true with a bit of envy because I don't see myself in that same kind of category, even though I would love to.

You are a pretty amazing person from what I've read and so any man that can make one of your dreams come true, if only for one evening, is someone to be at least a little bit envious of.

Thank you, Kaarina!

And thank you, Anonymous.

I guess this isn't the best place to have a "get to know you" conversation, but it's the place you've chosen, so I'll meet you here.

And by the way, I believe in you. You are someone who makes dreams come true. I bet you could give me an example right now.

And if you focused your intention on latin dancing (or anything else for that matter) for the next seven years, you'd make some dreamer quite happy. You would be a Juan to an Emily.

(Do you believe me?)

I believe you. I also acknowledge other factors that are currently in the mix that are not fully stated at this time.

Thank you for this conversation that we've had. Your words have helped me in ways you may never fully know.

May all of your dreams come true.

Your friend and admirer.
