And this is the end of an era for me. These are the last three paintings before India.

"Gentle Wind Song", commissioned by Sarah in Indiana. My instructions were to think about her and paint something beautiful that reminds me of her.

"Walking on Water", commissioned by Jennie in Nova Scotia as a wedding gift for her sister.

"Grammy's Sunset", commissioned by my grandfather in Los Angeles to honor my grandmother.
This has been hard work.
I've learned that contracts are a very good idea, especially amongst friends.
I've learned how scared I get that my patrons won't like my work.
I've learned how much time goes into one painting.
I've learned how much I crave black...wow...that makes me want to cry...yes, black in order to make my bright colors appear even more brilliant.
I've learned that my paintings never feel done until I can feel energy in every scene...because that's how I see life. Thus the themes of swirls and lines you always see.
I've learned what I'm worth. After a year of commissions, I understand now why I can sell a painting for $300.
I've learned how happy I get to see paint on my hands and on my clothes.
I've learned how crucial art is to this world. Oh man...people have told me such stories when they receive these paintings.
I've learned how integral art is to my life.

Amen darling.
paint all over my pants is the best feeling in the world!
Or music ringing in my head, my fingers raw.
I am sad I didn't get around to being specific about getting a painting from you before you left. I wanted to have the house first, to have you see it and paint something for the new house. Then you didn't come, and I was busy moving in, and then I felt like it was late and you probably didn't have time. Anyway... I'm glad I have an Emily original in my house nevertheless, even if it wasn't painted specifically for me.
