Gold Morning

Gold Morning*
(My Valentine Song for Kaerlek Janislampi)
Music and Lyrics by Emily Potter

The bus this morning was perfect
It was still dark outside
The air was cool and welcoming
as if it held a secret just for me.

There were people reading
by the glow of the blue lights
I smiled at them.
They didn't notice me.

I held the expectation of the day
in my mittened hands.
I stayed up a bit too late last night
for such an early morning.
I do not regret it.
I thought of you.

CHORUS
You have stunned my senses
with each word you say
You walk in me in places
No man has dared to travel.
And your words, I believe them
in a most precious way...
like delicate threads of gold.

I don't always enjoy mornings,
I thought as I yawned.
But I feel blessed, really,
that a force greater than my own will
arises me before the sun.

I would otherwise not ever see this early world
or these people or this bus stop
or have these thoughts of you.

CHORUS
You celebrate me
with each word you say.
You have given me colors
No man has dared to give.
And your words, I believe them
In a most precious way...
like fresh water flowing with gold.

BRIDGE
The poet in me has never been so frustrated!
You seem impossible to recreate from all my best images...
You are a living, breathing Poem.

Sometimes I feel like I'm barely holding on
with the only question on my lips being,
"What is happening?"
Sometimes I dance and swirl and cascade down
the steepest waterfalls
with a fierce cry in my throat thundering to the sky:

CHORUS
You have stunned my senses!
You hold liquid light!
You flow with life!
And these words, I believe them
today and tomorrow
when these moments will feel like gold.

My morning was perfect
Nothing was in a hurry.
The air was fresh and enchanting
as if it held a secret...
just for me.

*These lyrics were put together from letters I have written to Kaerlek over the last several months, with alterings to create the words into song form. He will hear this song for the first time this evening... it's my surprise gift for him! Well, unless he comes to this blog sometime today. I'll risk it. I am too excited to share my new song with you.

Iron painted not only just a painting, but the most beautiful and amazing piece of art EVER! All *I* did was made him breakfast in bed.

I hope he melts. I'm sure he will. How could he not?

I know the feeling of the "the poet in me being frustrated." I envy your way with words.
