I brought the audience into "my room" where I created the possibility out loud that they would automatically love me, and I would automatically love them. I said that I was going to dance for them as if I was alone, and afterward I invite them to come and dance in my room with me.
It worked.
People came up to me afterward with hugs and words of connection. One woman was crying as she thanked me for loving her.
And today I'm famous! About an hour ago a little girl named Stella recognized me on campus and pointed me out to her mom, who thanked me warmly for inviting her into my "room" and for being so vulnerable. Her husband then came over and talked with me for about ten minutes. He said, "Your message was simple and brilliant. I really want to apply the way you love people into my own life and career."
While I was talking to them, another mom turned around and said, "Oh it's you! Look kids, it's the bellydancer!" She then told me how she went home after my show yesterday and told her sister all about it.
Ah.... connection.
This is my bellydance class on Monday nights.
