The DMZ

The De-militarized Zone is the place where North and South Korea meets. The two countries are still at war since the Korean War in the 1950's. Lumina and I spent the day learning of the history, the tragedies, and the hope for reunification.

This is the Bridge of No Return. At one point after the war, Koreans were given the chance to cross over to the side of their choosing. However, once they chose, they could never turn back. Families to this day have been separated for over 50 years.

It was a somber day for me. I didn't want to talk much. I felt dazed by what I saw and felt.

The South Korean soldiers stand in this position there at the border. The stance is to intimidate the North Koreans and, in so many words, to say, "We're so ready for you if you ever attack again." We have learned that most South Koreans deeply desire reunification with their northern brothers and sisters.

I believe, just as it happened in Germany, it will happen again.
